Wendake, June 5, 2026 - The Wendat Nation officially celebrated the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Kwayaweh project today, marking the inauguration of this 236-unit residential rental complex spread across two six- and seven-storey buildings.

Developed by the Ya’ndiyahta’ Real Estate Alliance, this landmark initiative represents a major milestone in the Nation’s residential, economic, and community development. Beyond adding new rental housing, Kwayaweh stands as the largest rental residential complex ever built on an Indigenous community in Quebec. With a $70 million investment, it also represents the largest infrastructure project in the history of the Wendat Nation.

"Kwayaweh helps ensure the availability of living spaces for the next seven generations while building a sustainable future for Wendake. It also paves the way for a district that will welcome new and meaningful initiatives." — Pierre Picard, Grand Chief of the Wendat Nation.

Upon opening, Kwayaweh has already achieved an occupancy rate of over 80%, reflecting the strong demand for quality housing within the community. Among future residents, nearly 85% are members of First Nations, the majority of whom are Wendat. Non-Indigenous residents are also welcome.

With rents averaging 25% lower than comparable developments in the Quebec City region, Kwayaweh contributes directly to improving housing accessibility for Wendat members and other residents. Rental rates range from $1,140 for a one-bedroom-plus-den unit (3½) to $2,640 for a three-bedroom-plus unit (5½+).

Residents will enjoy a living environment designed to reflect the culture and history of the Wendat Nation. Amenities include a residents' lounge, coworking spaces, a games room, a fitness centre, and a landscaped courtyard featuring a heated pool, community gardens, and relaxation areas.

"This achievement demonstrates not only the Wendat Nation’s ability to deliver projects of significant scale, but also confirms the role of the Ya’ndiyahta’ Real Estate Alliance as a driver of sustainable development and collective prosperity for the Wendat people." — Maxime Picard, President of the Ya’ndiyahta’ Real Estate Alliance.

Phase 1 of the complex will welcome its first residents on June 10. Construction of Phase 2 is currently underway and is scheduled for completion in November 2026, several months ahead of the original timeline.
